DRUG STRIKE FORCE

The Buchanan County Drug Strike Force is a multi-jurisdictional Drug Enforcement Group serving the citizens of Buchanan County and Northwest Missouri. Our mission is to serve the community by providing effective enforcement of state and federal drug laws in an effort to reduce the amount of illegal drugs and drug related crime within the community.

The Buchanan County Drug Strike Force was created in November 1987 with funds obtained from the Buchanan County Law Enforcement Sales Tax and the Byrne Formula Grant administered by the Missouri Department of Public Safety. A board of directors was created to provide operational oversight, planning and direction for the unit. The board includes the Sheriff of Buchanan, Clinton, Andrew, Atchison, Holt and Nodaway counties, the Chief of the Saint Joseph Police Department, the Captain of Troop H Missouri State Highway Patrol, and the Emergency Management Director for Buchanan County. The chairman is the Buchanan County Sheriff, Bill Puett. The unit commander, Captain Shawn Collie reports to the board and is responsible for the operation and administration of the unit.

The Drug Strike Force is committed to aggressively pursuing those individuals who choose to violate the law. We use information gathered from multiple sources and many investigative techniques to produce prosecutable cases. Often, the information we use comes from citizens in the community. This information may seem small or insignificant, but when added to information obtained from other sources, it can result in an arrest or a substantial drug seizure.
